- Flood-Ready Grade

Sound familiar?
Loose sand lets asphalt edges wash out, sink and snap off.
- The sides of the driveway crumble and drop into the lawn a little more after every heavy rain.
- Pitch pine and oak roots push up humps and long, straight cracks across the surface.
- Low spots near Barnegat Bay stay soaked after a storm, and the blacktop starts to come apart.
Local conditions
Pine Barrens sand and a high water table
Ocean County sits on the outer coastal plain, and much of it is Pine Barrens. The soil is light and sandy. It drains fast but has little grip, so it shifts under load. Near Barnegat Bay and along the Metedeconk and Toms rivers, groundwater sits close to the surface. Pitch pine and oak roots spread wide just under the topsoil. Low ground around Lake Carasaljo and the bay towns hit hard by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 can still flood in big storms.
What we see most in Ocean County
Washed-out edges
Runoff strips sand from under the sides of the driveway until the edge breaks away.
Root heave
Tree roots lift the surface into humps and run long cracks from one side to the other.
Flood and salt damage
Bay water and road salt soak the base on low streets and speed up wear.
Worn commercial lots
Busy lots off the main highways get potholes, faded lines and broken patches.
The solution
Ground-Smart Paving From a Family That Lives Here
You should not have to fix the same driveway every spring.
Sandy soil fools a lot of people. It drains fast, so it seems like a great base. But it is loose, and water running off the side carries it away. Soon the asphalt has nothing holding up its edges, and they break. If that sounds like your driveway, it is not your fault. It was built for the wrong ground.
This is home turf for us. We are based in Jackson, and our family has paved for four generations since our grandfather started the company more than 60 years ago. Patrick Gallagher leads a licensed and insured team, and we stand behind our work and materials for 3 years.
We lock the sand in place with packed stone, support every edge and grade for runoff, so your driveway stays flat and in one piece.

Our recommendation
On sand, the edges decide how long a driveway lasts. Before you sign with anyone, ask how they will support the sides. If your current drive is mostly sound, we can rebuild just the broken edges and seal the rest. For a new home, put the base in right the first time. It is far easier than tearing it out later.

FAQ
Ocean County questions
Still have questions? Call (908) 720-2444. We pick up.
Why do driveway edges fall apart in Jackson and Lakewood?+
The soil is Pine Barrens sand. It drains well, but it is loose. Water running off the side washes it out, and the asphalt cracks off. We pack and widen the base so the edges have real support.
Can you pave the driveway for a brand new home?+
Yes. A lot of homes here are new builds. We can grade the lot, set the stone base and pave, so you are not stuck driving on dirt or gravel for long.
My home in Brick flooded during Superstorm Sandy. What should I know?+
Homes near the bay sit over a high water table and can flood again. We pitch the drive away from the house where we can and use a base that drains, so standing water does less harm.
Do you pave and stripe parking lots off Route 9 and Route 70?+
Yes. We pave, patch, sealcoat and stripe retail and apartment lots. We can plan the work in sections so your tenants and customers can still get in.
How far is your crew from Toms River and Point Pleasant?+
Not far at all. Our home base is in this county, so most trips are short. That also makes it easy for us to come back if you ever need us.
